jpegs downloading as BMPs
I think this is a fairly common W98 issue but can't find any assitance at Microsoft's site. a search of this forum disclosed no answer and a Google search turned up nothing. For the past week when I try to download a JPEG image it downloads as a BMP file. I seem to recall reading once where this was a problem that could be solved by clearing your cache but this hasn't worked for me. Can anyone solve this problem for me or direct me to a solution. Thanks in advance for any help.

when you want to download the file, right click on it and choose 'save picture as'
then make sure '.jpeg' is selected in the drop down box, not '.bmp' |

thanx but that's not an option. There is only one option in the drop down menu; to save it as a BMP.

I've never heard that as an "Win 98" issue... Do you have a specific site and pic to point to so others can try it to see what happens?

Generally I find that as a result of a file not having been completely downloaded. Try refreshing the view and then saving the file.

It's a known issue with Internet Explorer, covered in the MS KB article, Internet Explorer Does Not Save Graphics Files in the Proper Format.
Usually, clearing IE's cache (IE>Tools>Internet Options>Delete Files button) will solve the problem. |

thanks Miz, that was the article I was looking for. Emptying the cache does not solve the problem so I'm just using Opera to download the material. They are saved in the correct format with that browser. Not as secure but easier than the MS workarounds the article mentions. Thanks again.

check to see if you have jpeg files associated with internet explorer in folder options/file types.
there was a thread about something like this awhile back. check this out and see if there is anything you can apply to your situation. it's not the exact same problem, but it may shed some light: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...Graphics+Files here's the link from the thread that might help: http://www.geocities.com/one_human/i...?advanced.html Last edited by Dan; 08-06-2003 at 07:42 PM. |
