The Password Question

I feel kinda' stupid for having to ask this since I've run into this problem a few times before and gotten it fixed. I haven't had to address this in a couple years though and I'm having trouble resolving it this time.

I cannot get the user and password prompt to stop coming up on a Win98se system. I've got the Windows Logon chosen in the Network applet. There are no user profiles set up and no Passwords applet in the Control Panel. A search of the HDD finds no *.pwl files.

MS Knowledge base article #152104 doesn't work.

Thanks for any help.

When the login box comes up, don't enter anything, just click OK. Restart again. Should be no login box

Right click your Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop and select Properties. In the list just below the list of installed adapters and protocols, select Microsoft Family Logon. I could be wrong abotu this, not having used Win98 in 2+ years, but give it a try anyway, and let us know.

Start, Run, type regedit. Do a "find" for autologon and delete. Reboot, leave password blank and select OK. You also want MS Family Logon as primary under Network in Control Panel.

will this work on home network? That is, can your comp be on a non-domain network and still avoid the password prompt? (98SE)
