Administrator password

Administrator password
I have XP on my PC and had loaded my Win98 H/D as well and both had been operating OK until a recent large hiccup.
NOW.. When I boot with both H/D connected I get a blank screen with the flashing - in the top left hand corner.

When I boot with both drives connected and XP CD which boots into Setup options I select R for repair then the recovery console comes up with 1:\Windows option which is the only one given.

When I logon to option 1 up comes type Administrator password.
I am the only one who uses this PC and it won’t respond to any passwords I enter.

I then went into the BIOS setup and changed passwords there but that has not had any beneficial effect.

Is there some way I can override/get around this Administrator password to get me to the next
step?????

Thanks

XP home by default will not have a password for the Admin.

XP Pro will promt you to enter a password for the Admin

If you didn't set a password then leave it blank

I wish it was that simple.

This is XP Home and it is requesting an Admin password and refuses to accept any that I come up with and after 3 non acceptances the only option is reboot and run through the cycle again.

If you are needing to do a repair skip the recovery console and proceed through the setup and it will detect the previous version and offer you the option to repair.

Have previously followed that procedure and came up with.

The following list shows the existing partitions et. on this computer.
Four options.
1 Setup/enter
2Create partition in unpartitioned space/c which is 8gb Win98-fat32
3Delete the selected partitions/d which is 40gb XP home -ntfs
4Escape outa here.

When I selected 1 it came up with 6 options.
each related to formatting partitions.

See if the information in the MS KB article, 'The Password Is Not Valid' Error Message Appears When You Log On to Recovery Console in Windows XP is any help.

THANK YOU ALL

My deepest thanks to all who have made a contribution to this problem.

But I have to say "Praise GOD"....as mysteriously as this problem arose it seems to have resolved.

With quite a bit of exercising numerous logical! remedies and during that period the system lost all track of both hard drives I have finally got the system running again and dual booting between XP and 98.

As all logical! remedies proved fruitless I re-entered the BIOS setup and manipulated the BOOT setup a couple of times with an eventual successful outcome.

I have tried to restore the OE emails lost with no luck so far.
I will keep trying...but if someone out there can put me on the right track it could save me a lot of time.

Once again...THANKS ALL you are a great bunch.

roy66

ps.
A - OK, I have managed to sort out the restore email issue....WOW.
