Install Win95 on computer that has Winnt
I have a computer from work that has been running winnt that I am getting rid of and want to install win95 on for home use by my son.
How to I install win 95 on this computer. I am such an amateur here and have only installed XP and NT on systems - and just putting inthose CDRoms or boot disks it goes through the setup. However, I have the Win95 CDrom and I put that in during boot up but it still goes through to WInnt Where do I start? Thanks for your assistance in advance. |

Hi,
unfortunately, the Windows 95 CD is not bootable (from the Win9x line, only Win98 and ME come on bootable CDs), so you will need a floppy for that. You can download one from www.bootdisk.com Boot from that, and using FDISK, remove the existing partitions and create new ones. They have to be FAT16 if it's Windows 95A, and should be FAT32 for Windows 95B and C. Then, using FORMAT, format the created partitions. Again boot from floppy, make sure you boot with CDROM suppport. Now you can finally start SETUP on the Win95 CD. RJ
