Pissed startup items in conflict on ME

My son's PC is running ME and all of a sudden when it boots up we get an error message that each statup item has caused a fault in LSPCS.DLL and will now close. And they don't--they just keep popping up! Some of the items are P2P network, Spameater, Cybersitter. I tried going back to a restore point hoping that it was something he downloaded that caused this but it didn't work. I also reinstalled ME, and that didn't help either.

First things to try are a virus scan with updated reference file. Then get Ad Aware 6 (just do a google search), updated it and run it to eliminate spyware on your system.

If after cleaning out the spyware the ME system can't get online, download LSPfix on another machine, put it on a floppy (only 182k) and run it on the ME machine. It'll fix the TCP/IP stuff that removing spyware sometimes screws up.

Of course, you can probably manually fix an TCP/IP problems that arise but using LSPfix is easier.

You can get it here.

Thanks, guys, I'll try those suggestions. I have AdAware on my PC but not his. His has an antivirus program , but that was also one of the programs that caused an error message on start up.

You can always go to http://housecall.antivirus.com for a free online scan if the system will go that far

His browsers aren't working, but AIM is. Go figure. So I have to play with it to purge the ads and other garbage he probably dowloaded without knowing what he was doing.

Talking

Okay, everything is fine now. No viruses, 126 pieces of Spyware/Adware. A suggestion from ZoneAlarm on changing the name of a folder.
