I found it here on My PC with XP-Pro

C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\msconfig.exe

If U have win2000 then it does not come with msconfig....

i cant go start>run>msconfig...because all i have is a blue screen. the only way i can access programs is if i type ctrl-alt-dlete and run programs from there. i am trying to find somewhere i can check to see if "desktop.exe" is enabled.

any ideas how to get my desktop and start menu back??

I see on your other POST that U have Win2000 so U are right you do not have a folder named Windows and U also do not have msconfig unless U installed it, as win2000 does not come with it...

Reboot your machine and press F8 right after the BIOS screen to get that alternate boot choices menu and choose "last known good configuration"

Time to boot with the windows disk and do a repair installation, not repair console, but U go just like your going to do a new installation but it will prompt U to do a repair installation, and it will fix windows files and registry, but not loose any of your programs or data...

None that I know of...Unless win2000 has system restore and U had it set to create restore points, but I can not remember if it had that or not...

I have my Windows 2000 disk but I don't know how to get it to boot from my CD drive. I rebooted the system with the 2000 disk in the CD drive but booted normally instead

You have to enter the BIOS right at startup it should tell U what key to press to enter setup and that is the BIOS it is referring to. Once in there U have to set boot options to CD ahead of the HD...
