restoring the desktop
Does ANYONE know how to restore the desktop on windows 2000. i need to add my computer, recycle bin, outlook..everything to my desktop. i rebooted it and all icons were gone from my desktop including the START button.

My wife just had this problem at her work with Win2k, though I can't remember exactly what to click. I think you should be able to right click on the background. There is a command in that menu or maybe in the Arrange Icons submenu (like Show Desktop Icons or something) that will bring everything back up. I'll ask my wife in the morning and try to get back to you if you don't find it by then.

push alt+ctrl+del and go to the bottom middle button (i forgot what it said cuz i havent used 2k in a while) then go to file then run and type in explorer.exe thatll restore it.

i pressed alt-ctrl-dlete once, then went to task manager, file > run> explorer.exe.
My desktop still has not come back. any suggestions. thanx trin |

No luck with right clicking on the background to get the menu? My wife confirmed that is where she found the show icons command.

i think you nead to do an over the top install of windows boot with the cd and chose the repair option
