How do I set up the "remote desktop connection" to connect to another computer? My machine will be the one needing to control the other one, also running XP Pro.
What are the settings I have to enter and/or change to make it work?

i think your frend neeads to send you a remote assistance request he right clicks my comp properties remote and sets allow remote assistance to on then gos to help invite a frend to conect to your computer Both you and your assistant must be using either Windows Messenger or a MAPI-compliant e-mail account such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.
You and your assistant need to be connected to the Internet while using Remote Assistance. If you are working on a corporate or local area network, firewalls might stop you from using Remote Assistance. In this case, check with your network administrator before using Remote Assistance.

On the remote machine, make sure you have an account set up. Then make sure you are added to the "allowed remote users" list under system properties (right click my comp, choose properties, and the remote tab). Then, if the remote machine is behind a router, forward port 3389 to it's IP address (must have a static LAN ip address).
Fire up RDC on the controlling PC and enter the IP you are connecting to and voila. Edit: Make sure the built in firewall is disabled on both machines.

right click my computer, click on remote check the box that says allow users to remotely connect...
make sure your port is forwarded 3389 start>programs>access>communications>remote desktop enter in users ip of who you want to connect to As for remote assistance in messenger, same goes really.. You do NOT need messenger to connect, just use remote desktop (RDC) l8r |

Thanks, Cobra.
I talked to glc earlier today and he suggested that I use VNC. I got that working, so now I guess I'm pretty much all set.
