windows xp system disk
following a link from the build your own pc tutorial (step 21, i think), i found instructions for creating system disks for many different operating systems but not xp. how do i create an xp system disk from a friends xp system? thanks

XP install CDs are bootable. You just boot from the CD and you can partition and format drives, etc. No floppy disk required.

I understand that you actually can make an XP "disk" -- but it will take something like 7 or 8 floppies to do so...

It takes six, for Home. Don't know if Pro is the same.

Windows Explorer
Right-click on a drive A and select format from the shortcut menu. When the format window opens, check Create an MS-DOS startup disk, and then click Start. This will take you to the A: prompt, and, if the hard drive is not protected by some security measure such as NTFS with password protection, the disk can be useful for accessing the HD and recovering data files. From that point of view, there's no reason not to have one. I think you're thinking of sets of disks needed for XP Setup disks or Automated System Recovery disks, TwoRails.
