In XP Pro, can the "unavailble connection" icon (ie - for ethernet, dial-up or wireless connections) in the system tray be hidden with "hide inactive icons" unchecked in the taskbar properties?
[edit]: If this leads to a registry fix, then I don't want to bother.

If you go into the network connections window and right click on the unavailable connection icon in there, choose disable, and the icon in the system tray will go away.
