I have a computer that is running slow as molasses for no reason. It takes forever for something to pop up after clicking on it and the mouse pointer jerks around the screen. It has nothing to do with defragging, too many programs running in the background, or not enough memory. I read somewhere that a corrupted shortcut in the startmenu could be the culprit. How do you remove a corrupted shortcut in the startmenu?
Thanks, Bigron |

your question brings two things to mind:
the 3 finger salute and msconfig if you hit control/alt./delete it will show you what's currently running. systray and explorer are the real necessities. most programs can be disabled within the program settings. if you go to start/run and type msconfig, then click the startup tab, you'll see what's running at start up. if there are programs there that don't have to run at startup, you should consider disabling them. this could speed up startup time and also speed running time. for instance, running antivirus programs at startup can really slow boot time. having it run in the background all the time can also slow things down...use it just when you are online, reading mail, or viewing discs. so try checking out what's going on down under you.... also, a good way to find a corrupt shortcut would be to run a program like Norton Windoctor in Norton Utilities. |
