Boom Help! My Msimn keeps locking up!

Practically every time I open Outlook Express 6 I get this message:

"Msimn has caused an error in DDRAW.DLL"

Does anyone know what that means and what I can do to correct it? I have Windows Me. Thanks.

Did you install any software or hardware just prior to the problem starting to occur?

Do you have, or have you tried to install any Norton products? A failed install or uninstall of Norton stuff can create the ddraw error. If that's what caused it, you could try downloading and using the uninstall tool availble on the Symantec site.

If it turns out you haven't added or removed anything recently, you can use the System Restore feature that's built into Windows Me to try for a quick fix. The details are in your Help and Support menus: basically, just choose a restore date from prior to your current trouble with Outlook Express, and Windows will attempt to put the system files back the way the were.

Another approach might be to download the Service Pack for IE6 (which might refresh your Outlook Express files), - or perhaps try a "repair" install of IE. You can also reinstall (or upgrade) your DirectX (which ddraw is part of). It's possible that you've a file that's either missing (from an uninstall) or a different version (from an install).

If you wish, post again & let us know how the repairs go.

eldon - do you happen to have a link around for the McAffee/OE conflict? [ especially one with a solution ]

ted - in the meantime, I suppose you could try the updates, and hope it's just a file-version sort of thing.

McAffee has updated their program (not just the viruses) twice in the last few months. These new versions probably have a bug in them no doubt.
