Lost ability to set power options
On my computer with Win2K I recently tried to change some power off settings (Right click on desktop > Properties > Screen Saver > Power) when I realized no window came up after hitting the "Power" option. Going to Control Panel shows that "Power Options" is no longer on that list. This used to be there and my monitor still turns blank at the time I set for it some time ago so the power functionality seems to be working with the last settings I had put in.
Anybody know what might have happened here and how can I get the power options to show up again? No other users ever log on to this computer. |

Can you get to the Power Options menu through the Control Panel? If not, I beleive (at least with my Asus) that you can go into BIOS and have a look at the power options there, maybe something was disabled.

I already checked into my BIOS and everything seemed the same as when I set up this PC.

I found the problem.
In the \system32 folder the powercfg.cpl file was missing. So when I moved another copy into there it all works. Now the question is why did that file get lost? Are there any other surprises of Windows system files that may be mysteriously missing? At least all other Control Panel icons still show up.
