*Please help. XP auto shutdown on desktop!!*

I have never seen this before. My cousin calls me and I have to come over and try to fix her pc.

She says that after windows xp loads to the desktop, it goes to a screen and says that Windows will shut down in a few seconds or somewhat.

What is the problem?

I guess I'll format the pc.

No need to format the PC yet. It sounds like the RPC exploit that is affecting everybody right now. Read the sticky thread at the top of this forum on RPC errors here.

Do you have a firewall program?

No, my cousin does not have a firewall.

I was over there today, I downloaded the patch for winxp 32 bit and everything seems okay. The winxp 32 bit was suppose to block worms.

Is the popup able to reappear?

Last question. How did the exploit spread? Where do you get it from?
