task manager not working
If I hit ctrl-alt-del task manager starts then ends 1 sec later. Same if I try to run regedit.
Have searched forums but can't find anything. Win xp pro. Any ideas? |

If it's affecting regedit.exe, msconfig.exe, regedit.exe, then it does sound like worm, virus or Trojan.
Do a Virus scan. Use Spybot Search and Destroy http://patrick.kolla.de/spybotsd.html Go here to check specific programs http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner...an/index.phtml For Trojans use The Cleaner http://www.moosoft.com/ Also, this is an online Trojan scanner recommended by Reboot http://www.trojanscan.com/ You might also want to do a search of this forum for wincfg.scr http://forums.techguy.org/t139050/s0...4bea0f870.html Although the rogue process that is running, can also have other names like MSVXD.EXE WINCFG.SCR beta.exe HTH |

A guy on another forum had this same problem: "turned out to be w32.spybot.worm and w32.tzet.worm."

have updated norton and it found W32KwBot.F.Worm and W32Supova.Worm then followed instructions to delete reg key values. problem still happening.
found info from other forum - copy regedit.exe and taskmgr.exe somewhere and rename .com can then use both ok found that ending process called sysmangr32 stops problem but upon rebooting process is there again. how do i get rid of it. found sysmangr32.exe in C:\WINDOWS\system32 should i delete it? |

Haven't found anything on sysmangr32.exe but there are references to a Trojan that uses sysman32.exe
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100164.htm Check out Symantec's Website for their answer to sysman.exe. Have you tried The Cleaner yet? That may be able to identify it. Rather than deleting it, you could try renaming the file to sysmangr32.old and that should stop it running. It will give you time to find out what it is. Then check the Run section of your Registry. It must be there if it's running at Startup. Last edited by mike breck; 08-13-2003 at 02:42 PM. |
