Weird "Windows Critical Update" Behavior

I run Windows 98. I've recently noticed that my computer is constantly trying to connect to the Microsoft Windows Critical Update site. I looked in "Task Scheduler" and saw that an item labeled "Windows Critical Update Notification" is in there and is set up to run every 5 minutes, 24 hours a day, forever!!! When I disable this task, it automatically re-enables itself every time I reboot my computer.

The name of the file being run is "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WUCRTUPD.EXE".

What's going on? Is this some sort of invasive Microsoft thing or is it some sort of Trojan Horse?

You must have downloaded it while updating windows, try going Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and uninstalling
Microsoft Windows Critical Updates Notification.

If you want to keep it but change the time interval check out this.

Thanks Redo40,
I deleted it from the control panel. Worked out great.
