How do I uninstall windows XP?
I put windows XP pro on my new computer and its been really messed up. It started out fine, but then I put on McAfee and it wouldnt update (I needed the updates for the firewall and virus scan to stop the blaster virus). So then I tried to download the patch from the Micro$oft site but got stopped by the "service terminated" error message and the computer shut down. So then when I restarted the computer the DSL wouldnt connect saying that it "couldnt find modem". Since the DSL has done this before I tried to fix it the normal ways, none of which worked. So then I uninstalled the DSL software and when I tried to reinstall it, it wouldnt work because it still "couldnt find modem". Since I dont have much on this computer yet, I was thinking that I should just uninstall XP and then reinstall it because this would fix my McAfee problem, Virus problem (would it fix it?), and DSL problem. So how would I go about uninstalling windows XP Pro? I dont want to keep anything thats on the hardrive right now. Thanks.

You can't uninstall WinXP Pro. What you need is to format the hard drive, that will erase any contents on it.
To do that, boot from the WinXP CD and start Setup, somewhere at the beginning you will be able to partition and format your hard drive, after that the WinXP installation process continues. RJ

You don't really need to uninstall XP as a separate step. Just put your XP CD in and install it from scratch.

And please, if you want a smooth running system leave McAfee off. It causes more problems than it's worth.
Notice how you said it started out fine and then you put McAfee on and then it messed up. Chas

Yeah getting rid of McAfee is one of the reasons I want a fresh install. I've read that McAfee is really hard to get rid of. Thanks, I think I know what to do now.

i wood say that you have the blaster worm virus as the error you discribed is a symptom the first thing to do is download the patch setup program on another computer and save it to flopy then try runing it on the fresh instaled computer befor you conect to the cable modem
