Few XP Questions
Hi Experts,
I hv a few questions about modems. Plz help me clear my doubts and understanding. 1. **** How can we reinstall dial up networking components in xp ( i use "netsh int ip reset abc" . Same step is used to rebuild tcp/ip stack. ) 2 **** How can we be sure that MODEM hardware is not functioning. (Queriyng modem or hyperterminal test) 3 **** Steps to perform "No dial Tone" in xp 4 ***** Is there any other way to rebuild the winsock stack and tcp/ip stack and RAS [ THE "netsh int ip reset abc" does not work in most cases] 5 **** what is the difference between "INPLACE UPGRADE (from desktop) " and "REPAIR INSTALLATION " when booting from xp cd 6 **** How to remove AOL from System completely (every trace of it). Some of previous responses from u have cleared a lot of doubts .. 7 **** Any way to repair Internet explorer (except using sfc/scannow or installing using ie.inf) Will appreciate every bit of help from u... |

Another one that just slipped out of my mind..
************************************ Why is it sometimes that some applications we install like Worksuite does not appear in all user accounts. Even this is not consistent. Some times they do appear on some systems and sometimes on other systems they appear in all users |

As to the last q, my guess is it depends on the folder you installed it to moreso than anything else.

Answer to #1 and #4 above:
Go to http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/ and get the WinsockXPfix.exe file. Boot to safe mode. Remove the modem from device mangler. Shutdown, take the modem out of the computer. Restart, run the Winsock fix file. Shutdown, put the modem back in. Restart, reinstall modem. |
