Win 98 SE general fault SUWIN
I received an error message that a ??.dll file could not be found and my win 98 se system locked up. When I rebooted manually I got an error message during scan disk that said something to the effect of a bad user.exe file. The system would only load in the safe mode. I decided to re-install win 98 and started the procedure. During the installation, I get the following "APPLICATION ERROR" message:
SUWIN caused a general protection fault in mode USER.EXE at 000B:0094. I searched on the WIN Support page and did not find this message in the help system. There were other messages that looked similar but none mentioned user.exe. The computer will not run, I cannot install win 98 and I am asking to see if anyone has suggestions on what to do? |

95% of the time a SUWIN error on setup can be blamed on bad RAM.

I have tried some of the tips from the links from tworails, namely resetting the processor speed and restoring the original bios settings. neither worked.
I was able to go through the win setup and it got to the reboot stage and the program says that a path to a file is not correct but it does not list the file. It has a button for details but nothing came up and the system then freezes. HAL, I have two 56 and one 128 memory card in my system. Do you suggest that I remove all but one card and try to reload windows or do I just remove the memory and try to reboot? Thanks for the input |

Just remove all but 1 stick of memory and reboot. If all works out then try different combinations until you find 1 or more sticks that are bad.

Thanks for the input. I had a memory stick that would hold up the system. Of course it was the 128 stick and not the 64 ones (56?? from earlier post- I was probably in a panic mode and thought of my old dial up)
I tried it in various slots and the problem would only occurr when that 128 stick was installed. Once again, Thanks! |
