Computer restarting because of error 102

I have had my new computer restart on me 3 times so far. Twice while playing WarCraft 3 and once while in IE6. I noticed that I had a security error each time of the restart, a Policy Change error. I looked up my error code and here is what I get.

Event ID: 102
Source Application Management
Type Error
Description The install of application "Package Name" from policy "Policy Name" failed. The error was The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.

Comments Tatiana Mosoi
As per Microsoft: "The machine account for the workstation does not have permissions to the share or file system that holds the source files for the package. When a workstation runs Group Policy, it does so in the context of the machine system account for the workstation." See Q278472 for more details and resolution.
Links Q278472

Also when I turned off windows restart on error, I got a blank blue screen without anything on it. The information on Q278472 here - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=278472

The thing that I don't understand is that, in my knowledge, XP home does not have the Group Policy thing. Any help would be much appreciated, any ideas on it would be great. Thank you!

Well I had the blaster worm kinda. Like 5 days ago or so I had the thing come up saying the computer would shut down in 1 minute, so I just restarted it manually. When I restarted I looked for trails of the blaster, but I found nothing. Then I downloaded the patch and virus scanned and there were no trails of it. Anyone else have suggestions?

Are you sure you didn't have the blaster worm? I would double check to make sure. That error message looks too suspicious.

I will go run one of the online virus scanners right now just incase. But I couldn't find the msblast.exe in system 32 and i could not find any changes in the registry. I will go scan, but any other ideas?

Edit: I just went and scanned it with HouseCall, no viruses. I have also downloaded the little programs that just look for msblaster and nothing from them. Any other ideas about my problem.

Well i reformatted and i still get the policy change things in security, which i think leads to the restarts. Does anyone know how to fix all this IPSec stuff. Here is the message I find in the event viewer.

Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Policy Change
Event ID: 615
Date: 8/19/2003
Time: 10:45:32 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
Computer: SHAAD1
Description:
IPSec Services: IPSec Services failed to get the complete list of network interfaces on the machine. This can be a potential security hazard to the machine since some of the network interfaces may not get the protection as desired by the applied IPSec filters. Please run IPSec monitor snap-in to further diagnose the problem.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Anyone ever heard of this or had to use a IPSec monitor?

I have Onboard LAN and an external DSL modem. I thought this problem had gone away when I reformatted and turned of IPSec Services, but last night it happened again when I was about to install HalfLife. Here is the error message.

And it seems as if the event ID was 1003 instead of 102, but I looked it up at www.eventid.net and it still makes no sense to me. Any help would be appreciated!

Its ethernet, and the onboard LAN is what I use. I will check for any updated drivers.

Edit: I have the lastest NIC drivers.

i think you have a hardware prob its eather driver related or defective hard ware at a push i wood look at the onboard lan as the problam. the cost of network cards is low it may be an idea to get a pci lan card and disable the onboard one in the bios and see how you get on

I had the error again, and it said something like the memory being sent could not be recieved. It happened during a warcraft 3 inbetween missions movie. So I am guessing it is the ram, is there settings in BIOS i could change to make stuff work better?

do you have the lastest video drivers as a quick look at the radion site shows the last one hade a few bugs all so affter updating did you reinstall direct x if not its a good idear to do so as for the ram i dont think it your problam but if you have 2 or moor sticks pull all but 1 out and run the computer if it works try the next one you can set your bios to safe defults but this wood under clock your system but aggen may be good for testing my thinking still is the lan or modem but try other things as well post back with results

When I did this reformat, first thing is I got SP1 and then installed the Catylist 3.6 and then installed Dx9 later. I will try to get my hands on some other ram soon. Any other insight would be appreciated.

you have done every thing right so far as regards soft ware so the problam must be hardware related unles you have a fire wall or anti virus thats giving you problams you can try chkdisk on a full scan just in case you have bad sectors on the hard drive if nothing shows then try the ram but if the problam was ram i think it wood happen even when your not conected to the net the memory error may be the vid card or the modem unabble to send info as well all so if you have any other pci cards try removing them and if your not useing the onboard raid disabble it in the bios if you do use the raid then disabble it just to test

It happens when I am not on the net. The first few times i was though, but it happens also when I am not on the net. I already went through one vid card, but nothing was actually wrong with it I found out later, I never had the error with the other card, then again I hardly used the computer when I had that card and thought something was wrong. I have a 200GB HDD, but only like 130GB is recognized by windows because of the limits, I will run scan disk though.

Edit: Also I do have the Onboard RAID disabled.

Another M$ article - this one concerning 137+ gig hard drives - and this *might* be causing problems, you need to get all 200 gigs seen. (Actually Windows will see a 200 gig drive as around 186 gigs due to the 1000/1024 thing)

I decided to run memtest 86 for the hell of it and I got at least 10 errors on tests 3 and 4. So to me it looks like its the ram (like glc said from the beginning but I refused to believe it) I will try to trouble shoot it later and see if just one stick is bad and whatnot.
