Application has encountered a problem?

Computer is running XP home. When booting "msvc32i MFC application has encountered a problem and needs to close" shows up. I know little about XP. Anybody have any ideas what is causing this or how to correct? I have checked for viruses including Blaster and performed scandisk, found nothing. Restore was disabled. I'm thinking of reinstalling XP. Will I have any problem doing that? I've heard that there can be problems getting it reactivated.

It looks like it is spyware. Check out this link for some more information: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1060992699

May want to download ad aware or spybot search and destroy to clean your system of spyware.

THANKS doctorgonzo and eldon. Once again this form pulls thru. Took care of the problem. It's not my computer so I'll tell the owner about ad aware and spybot. Right now he has Browser Pal on the computer, anybody hear of it, have any opinions of it?
