Warning SU0019
Setup has found commands in your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files that are not compatible with Windows. Setup creates backup copies of your existing Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files and creates new files, if necessary. this is the error i'm getting i think if i chose ignore it will create the files once it is loaded. what you think? |

You've got three threads going here. Hard to follow.
But if you have a question about your floppy go to www.bootdisk.com and download a WIN98 boot disk. WIN98 is bootable by itself. Since you say it isn't a upgrade and I'm assuming it isn't a restore from HP, Compaq, Gateway, ect. go into BIOS and set boot order for CD-ROM as first boot device and then reboot with your WIN98 CD in the drive. It has to be in the drive when you boot or else your BIOS will then default to second boot device. Chas'

su win errors are
from what i gather, the system is running to fast, for 98 to load windows, ihave read where it tells you to turn off l1 and l2 cache in the bios till loading is down and if that doesn't work turn down the speed to 100 mhz in the bios which then you have to jumper it on the board or it won't start. so i am going to try these things and let you know.

You should really try to keep your posts in one for the same problem... It would be alot easier for someone to help you...

Please start using "Post reply" and keep this thing to one thread. You are really confusing things with so many threads going.

Yes it would.... like I said.... when I worked for a distributor, this happened to me on MANY occasions. What happens is when the OS is installing, files are first copied to RAM where they are decompressed before copying to the hard drive. If there is a bad memory area in the RAM, the data becomes corrupt during the decompression and an SUWIN error occurs.

i got passed the errors, i disabled l2 cache on the cpu and and pulled one stick of ram, after i did this it booted and the op system went in like flint. all is working well and after it went in i enabled the cache, and [put the stick back in, from what i read windows 98 and me, do not like systems that run 512 or above ram for some reason. it worked and so far so good.

Just a thought: since your Athlon is getting close to 2 ghz, if you see any general protection errors, might look at this article: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;312108
You may well not have to worry about it, though. Just a precaution. . . . Gary [. . . of course, those errors can also point to troublesome memory. One thing you could do is try to double-and-triple check the memory by using several testing methods. Try DocMemory http://www.simmtester.com and perhaps a burn-in with SiSoft Sandra http://www.sisoftware.co.uk - there are a few more, but those two are easy to use] Last edited by GaryRouth; 08-24-2003 at 02:03 AM. |

How much RAM are you trying to run. WIN98 doesn't work well above 512 without VCACHE changes. I've found there isn't much change above 256K with the 2 WIN98 PC's I have.

That patch shouldn't be requred on your system as you are running a 2200+ processor which is only 1.8Ghz. I'm still leaning on it being a RAM issue.

well i think i'm going to pull the one stick out and see what happens, then i might adjust the vcache see if that does anything. if all else i will take that one stick down and have it tested. i tryed to download the ram test, would not load it for some reason someting about zip file. i will try again. this thing will runn. lol
