AVG Grisoft Freezes

Appreciate some help.

On a PC running W98SE, have AGV Grisoft installed (Free version). It has run fine for a while, but now it freezes, and the computer, before a scan is fully completed.

Any ideas as to what could be causing the program to stop? Anyone experienced the same thing? Found a solution?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you checked Grisoft's pages? The following is copied from their site.

If you have ANY problem with our AVG Anti-Virus, please check, if you have done the latest Update. If you have out-of-date version of our Anti-Virus, please try to download the latest Update file from our web using AVG Control Center, Update manager Tab

If the problem still appears after updating, you can contact us using the special feature - Bug report. You can access this feature in Help menu of AVG for Windows application. If we will need some additional info, we will contact you directly.
Seems like it is worth a try

Try running it while in "safe mode" first.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Already went to the AVG Grisoft Help page, but the problem is not covered there, and there is not much help for the Free version. Guess you can't blame them.

Will try runing in Safe Mode and see how it goes.

Thanks again.

when it stops and freezes look at the list of files it is testing then find the file it stops on and see if its damaged and avg cant scan it all so run scandisk full to check for bad sectors and files on your hard drive

Good suggestion, thanks.

The program is running on a friend's PC, and they are the ones having the problem. Going over to check things out.

Might also be that there is a corrupt file in one of the downloaded updates. If one right clicks Start, goes to Explorer, and then finds the following:
C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\Update
There are all sorts of update files kept there. These can be deleted and updated anew.

If not, there is also the option to update to AVG 7.0.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the info.

Might just do that and bring the program up to date for them. Sounds like a good option.

I can find no place to upgrade the free version of AVG 6 to 7. If you download the free version, you get 6. If you pay for 6 you can upgrade. Where did you get the free version of 7?
