Problem upgrading Win2000 over '95

Hi guys.

I'm trying to upgrade an old PC which runs win95 with Win2000 Pro.

When I run the setup disk, I get the following errors appearing one after the other...

1) The language of this version of windows differs from the one you are installing. The option to upgrade will not be available.

and then...

2) Setup cannot continue because upgrade functionality is disabled.

What's going on here? Of course the language is the same, isn't it?! Thanks for any advice...

You can't upgrade from 95 to 2000. If I remember correctly, you have to upgrade from 98 or newer (maybe NT). You'll have to do a full install on Win2k pro to get it on your system.

....which says you can upgrade from Win95!

So now what?!

If all else fails, can I upgrade to 98SE, and then onto 2000?

Cool

What kind of PC? Processor size. HD size and amount of free space. How much memory?

A lot of those old 95 systems only have 16-24K of memory. Not enough for either WIN98 or 2000.

Are you sure that the languages are the same? Where did these OSs come from originally?

if your try to upgrade by booting in to win95 then puting the 2k cd in the drive you will have problams try seting the bios to boot from the cd and place the win 2k cd in the drive and boot from that if you cant boot from the cd your computer may not be abble to then go to the microsoft web site and down load the win 2k boot disk maker program and use that to make the 4 i think win 2k flopy set up disks and boot from them you cant use a win98 or 95 flopy as nt based windows versions dont install well over DOS witch your 98/95 flopys are

The PC is fine - it's Pentium2, 128Mb, 4Gb. Plenty for Win2000.

So, what does it mean by language then? How do I check / change it?

Maybe you can look in Regional Options, though I am not exactly sure.

So do you think I could upgrade to Win98 first, and then upgrade to win2000 later?
