Question When I plug something into my USB port, nothing happens

I bought a usb floppy drive but when I plug it into the computer, nothing happens. I plugged into it into another computer and windows recognized it and everything worked fine. I have a Hewlett Packard and I looked into the device manager and it says I have to USB controllers installed so I dont understand why nothing happens when I plug the drive in. Any suggestions? I have windows 2000 and the floppy drive is a smartdisk.
Thanks,
Bigron

Do you have any other USB devices you can plug into the HP and see if they work?

Worst case scenario is a physically dead USB port(s)... if you really need 'em, you can buy a card which has the newer USB 2.0...

Good luck

was the other computer a win2000 pc as i think win2000 is not a plug and play operating system you need to install the drivers and run the add new hardware wizard from control panall
