why should i install sp1 for xp
are there any good reasons? how bout bad?

Just to be able to use hard disks larger than 120 GB.

there are about 2000 reasons, but the main one that poped into mind firstr, that is how you get the drivers that support the new usb 2.0

I can't install xp sp1. for some reason it said my serial# is incorrect..

then you may have a ilegle copy of xp, as far as it is detected by them,
you may have to call microsoft to get it corrected, they have certian numbers blocked so that no upgrades can be used, |
