Cool How to remove partion in XP

Hi, I would like to remove the existing partition on this PC I am trying get to work better.

Here is the setup:

60 GB HD
partitioned:
start offset Partition length
1) Active C:\FAT32 50.7GB 0 52007
2) D:\NTFS 5.12GB 52007 5247

The OS is located in 'D'

I want to remove this partition as my PC seems to be running slower than it should! Also, evertime I install a new application, it defaults to 'D'

Thank you.

I'll try to give you the choices that you have in front of you.

If you remove your partition D - you will not be able to boot (as your OS is in that partition).
If you are still intent on removing the partition, please note that you will have to reinstall windows XP (and, for all practical intents and purposes all programs). If that is what you want, post back and someone will walk you through the steps.

Your system is running slower because of a variety of probable reasons - for one your XP partition is too small. 5GB just doesnt cut it for XP. You need to give it at least about 10GB. Also there could be a lot of controllable factors to the slowdown, like moving pagefile, changing startup programs/services; but I would doubt whether that is an immediate concern.

So that brings up the second issue, you are likely going to have to lose everything on your C: drive as well since you are going to have to enlarge the space on D: by taking from C:. of course as we see, you seem to have about 4.xx GB of unpartitioned space on your drive that you could use for D: - if that is the case you need not delete the C: partition - all that will come if you do decide to do a reinstall of Windows.

If you wish to resize the partitions that you have (give D:\ more space and reduce space on C) without losing any programs or settings then you will need to buy a software like Partition Magic (well worth the money if you have important documents/programs that you cant afford to lose in a new installation). A program like that will allow you to increase the size of your D: by either adding any unpartitioned space that is on your drive, or by subtracting from your C:

Nope XP / any Microsoft OS does not provide that feature. You can create partitions on unpartitioned areas, but you cannot resize existing partitions without first deleting them.
