My computer was working fine up untill a few days ago when I reformated. It worked fine for a day or so then one day I came back and the computer had a blue screen and when I shook the mouse it restarted. Then I would get on and right at the windows XP logo the mobo would beep5 short beeps and 2 long then load windows with strange lines running through it. I restored windows and now im getting only black and white. Can anyone tell what the problem may be? I think it has something to do with the video card because when I install the latest detonator drivers windows loads and right when the desktop would come up my moniter will shut off then my computer will restart seconds later. Thanks for the help.

try turning the monitor of and back on have a look a the monitor for a degouse button. see if you can replace the monitor lead. do you have a diffrent monitor you can try.
if all of the abbove dont help your vid card may be defectiv do you have one you can try. the beeps you got can be a bad vid card error do you get them on every startup and reboot ? it may all so be a bad ram error but as the problam is with the display than i suspect the vid card. anothe thing to try is a boot to safe moad affter the bios loads press the F8 key and you will get a menue select safe moad. when it finishes loading is it still black and white all so if you can get to safe moad right click my computer go to propties go to addvanced look down the list for startup and recovery options click setings and on the next screan remove the tick from auto restart on errors hit apply then close that window and any others do not restart yet click start run and type msconfig and hit enter on the startup tab untick every thing hit apply then reboot the computer if you get a blue screan with a error masage wright down the exact mesage and post it hear you must get every thing it says all numbers and letter and any prog it mentions hope this helps andy |
