New install and need help
I just swapped my computer into a new case, everything worked fine before. So i put everything in, and installed a new vid card, and a PCI to IDE converter card which I hooked a ZIp drive to. Now the sound isnt working, and the zip isnt either. Any ideas? Ive tried switching the converter to a different slot, but its not working.... I'm no expert and kinda lost here
. Thanks for hte help anyone!

Thanks! So I tried switching the HDDs (2) to the controller card and my computer wouldnt boot into windows at all. So next I tried to switch the CD drive to it, the ZIP to the secondary mobo IDE, and the HDDs back to the primary mobo IDE, with that combo, the cd drive wasnt recognized at all, as well as the ZIP drive. Im getting more confused here. I know the ZIP drive works, so now im realllllly lost. Any more ideas?

Have you checked your device manager - was the controller card recognized?
Try leaving your HDDs on the IDE slots that you used when installing XP. Then put in your IDE controller card and boot up. You are likely going to have to give in drivers to have the device recognized. Once that is done, try switching the HDD over to the controller. |

Well heres the deal.... The system in the old case was fine, no problems, but I didnt have room to add the ZIP drive. So I bought the controller card to connect the zip drive to. I swapped everything into the case and added the ZIP and controller card. Thats when things started acting up. Yes, I have check all through the device manager and there are no problems with anything, controller card is recognized but whatever is hooked up to it isnt being recognized.

I believe when you put your HD with tho OS on a controller card you have to change the boot sequence to SCSI as first boot device. Optical devices do not work on PCI controller cards. I don't know about Zip drives.

Are the drives all jumpered correctly for Slave and Master?
I dont know if you have, (am a bit confused by your last post), but it would be better to go ahead sequentially 1) Move everything to new case, just the way it was in the old one (without controller card and zip drive) 2) Add controller card (do not connect HDD or Zip) & boot - supply new drivers if required. 3) Move HDD to controller card (or to the fastest IDE port) - make sure that you account for any jumper setting changes in slave/master - boot and make sure everything is ok. 4) Add Zip drive. Again CHECK jumper settings. Also check that cables are properly connected - both ATA cables as well as power supply. Make sure that your BIOS is set to autodetect your IDE devices on both channels of Primary and Secondary. It seems to be a slow process, but doing it sequentially will help you and us figure out which step is the issue. BTW what controller card is it? Mfger and model please. Ok, took out controller card and disconnected the zip drive. Moved sound card to a different PCI slot. Now the sound works! That makes me happy! Now I would just like to try and get the zip drive to work. There are no jumpers set on the zip drive... should there be... I think that is what is holding the computer from recognizing it. There are six pins on the back for the jumper, 2x3, where would the jumper go?
