I am working on a computer for a friend, I two have a WinXP pro and WinME system on a BEFSR41 v2 setup and all work fine!
The Setup im working on, is a WinXP HOME and Win98se, the Win98se machine access the router just fine, and no problems on the internet, now the WinXP HOME machine can access the internet only if i plug directly into the DSL box and have the DSL dial-up config (as instructed by bellsouth). But when I go back to plugging into the Linksys router, nothing!.. I used the IPconfig /release, but when i go to IPconfig /Renew, i get (Error renewing ip address contact syst admin etc). I did away with the setup bellsouth had me do to access the DSL modem directly.... |

Make sure you have "obtain IP address automatically" selected. Are you using the same cable to connect the computer directly to the modem? Your CAT5 cable may be damaged. Otherwise, try a different port on the router.

Yes i did check that option, and the cable worked fine from the computer to the DSL modem, when i had it setup that way, but the problems is from the computer to the linksys router. I will change out the cable just to make sure though!

If changing out the cable didn't help, make sure the XP computer is plugged into a functioning port on the router. The #4 port won't work when there's something plugged into the WAN port and the #1 port won't work when there's something plugged into the Uplink port.
