Unhappy XP wont start

Every time i try to start up i get 2 messages The first one is as stated: The Procedure Entry Point AssocIsDangerous Could not be located in the dynamic link Library SHLWAPI.dll.

It gives me 1 choice to hit OK.When i do that it gives me this message: The Logon User Interface DLL msgina.dll Failed to load.Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL,or restore the original.

Then the only choice is to Restart.

I have pressed F8 and gone in and tried every option that it gives me,but i still get the same result each and every time.
I am not really sure what to do....Any help would be greatful.
Thanks Daryl

did you just install windows service pk or update if so the only way to save your data is borow a full winxp cd and
1. Boot to Recovery Console.

2 . type the following commands
cd system32 [enter]

ren winlogon.exe winlogon.old
ren msgina.dll msgina.old
ren shell32.dll shell32.old
ren shlwapi.dll shlwapi.old

cd.. [enter]
cd servicepackfiles\i386 [enter]
copy MSGINA.DLL c:\windows\system32
copy SHELL32.DLL c:\windows\system32
copy WINLOGON.EXE c:\windows\system32
copy shlwapi.dll c:\windows\system32

if not there, expand from the cd

3 Type EXIT and hit enter

Someone must have repaired the copy of XP wrong. A repair should not do anything but recopy the files back to your XP folder that are missing or corrupted. I have never had a problem with XP repair.

I tried what Andyms18a recommended.I am not sure of the exact procedure. As in do you type the word enter or do you press enter.I am also not sure what recovery console is.I get boot to command prompt from cd rom or restore windows XP.
Any more help would be appreciated.

Found out about the recover console, mine not installed or at least not activated.

New as of now-------------I just went ahead and did a system restore.Everything back to normal now.I did lose all my saved programs and data.Restored to the way it was the day i bought it.Thaanks again for aall your help.
