I had the same problem for months, System kept freezing sometimes 15-20 times a day, mouse, k/b etc. was innoperable, I had to reboot using the restart button on the case.

In my case it was caused by an ACPI? conflict.

Apparently there was a conflict between W2K and my Bios both trying to control the ACPI controller, causing the system to hang.

My problem was solved by flash upgrading my Bios, the alternative was a new m/b.

The problem is listed and explained in more detail in Microsofts W2K FAQ.

Hope this helps

Sorry! the OS I had this problem with was XP Pro, not W2K Pro.

Maybe they are both similar in this respect?
