I have accumulated thousands of files ranging from MP3's, Office documents, pictures, programs, etc. Now I have a dillema on how to structure all of this data onto my file server. I'm tired of "My Pictures, My Docs, My Music". Anyone wanna share how they have their files strutured?

I have different partitions for that stuff. Easier to deal with and easy to remember (Drive M is for MP3s, for example, and drive G is for games).

The File structure can become pretty convoluted while being helpful at the same time. For example, I have a Directory just for my digital photos, and then it has it's own multiple sub-directories. The actual struture will have to be something that makes sense to you. Here is a short example of mine:
*(separate drive / partition) *--Digital Photography *----Nature Shots *------Shots from This Place... *------Shots from That Place... *------etc... *----Family Shots *------Vacation2003 *------Reunion2010 *------Billy Joe Bobs Birthday *------etc... *----Pet Shots ....and on and on... You can do the same for music, having Jazz, Rock, etc as (sub)directories. Programs are the same. Utilities in one spot, databases in another, etc... HTH TwoRails |
