Open the Registry editor (Stare>Run>regedit>OK) and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon The 'Userinit' string should read: C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe, (including the comma at the end) If "C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe," appears twice in a row, delete the repetition |

Miz,
I found the key you refered to in the registry. It is not duplicated. Is there any way of having this computer boot to the desktop and not the c:\windows\system32 directory? Thanks, Mark |

do you have one or 2 user accounts on your computer if only one make a new one and boot to that dose it still happen
all so have a look for the boot.ini file it may be hidden copy wot it says and post here. next run msconfig and chose selective startup and untick the start up tab and reboot

Fixed it! here is how:
In my case, this problem appeared after playing around with the software for my Creative Audigy sound card. The HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Run section had an SB Audigy 2 Startup Menu key with the value of /L:ENG. Removing the key solved the explorer startup problem. Mark |
