Is my CD Corrupted???

I was running Win XP Pro

Yesterday i tried to reinstall XP to a new and old HD however when i tried to install XP i kept getting errors. When in the early stages of installation i would get an error with a peice of Hardware would just get a popup saying unregonised HArdware or word to that effect so i just kept closing it knowing full well there was a problem.

So i continued with the installation and when it had finished XP started and and it did not recognise my CD player so i reformated and tried to reinstall again, same problems again and a few others. it got worse when i started to get blue screen errors so im thinking that XP isnt cpying all the files from the CD to the HD which means its corrupted, could anyone let me know if this is the case or if there is a problem somewhere else in the comp that is causing the problem.

BTW i removed the CD player and installed through the CD/R player to see if the problem was the CD player and i just got other problems or blue screens something is very wrong i just dont know what they are im at the end of my tether

Please help!

thnx

is this a new computer or a old one ?
have you had it working befor ?
did you have any problams with it ?
can you post your system specks ?
try cleaning the windows cd by runing it under the cold tap and wipe it with a very soft cloth all so try a cdrom drive cleaning cd in the cd drive if you have moor than one stick of ram remove all but one if that fails remove and swap it with another one make shore all cabbles are tight and all fans are runing remove any pci cards you have like modem network and sound if all elce fails try a out of the case build

If this is a new/different machine I would check the RAM. Sure sounds like a flaky RAM problem.

well its not a new build
I had recently installed new Ram but the comp seemed to recognise it NP

I did note down the Bluee screen numbers ill post them here

Cant find all of them but one i have found was

0x0000000007b which i think is a hardware error correct????

but when i have done a quick format for install i have had a messege saying that *dont know which ones* files have failed to copy this could be due to a damaged install CD, which makes me think that its the CD thast damaged but im really not sure

try it with just the RAM you had before, The "known to be good" RAM. I had a case that sounds just like this one and it was bad RAM.
Try installing your Win XP with "known to be good" RAM and post back. I would format the partition before installing again.

I have no experience with this, but could it be the hard drive connection (i.e. bad cables)? An error with writing means that data isn't making it from the CD to the HD, but it is highly unlikely that something is wrong with the CD. It takes major scratches to cause a read error with an optical disk, and the chances that you got a bum CD are slim.

Check for scratches on the data side of the CD, otherwise I think it's a hardware issue.
