op. system not found

I have a HP Pavilion XE736 computer which I have just put a new WD 40GB hard drive into it. I had Windows Me on old hard drive, want to put it in new hard drive. But I keep getting a message that says "operating system not found". I put Me cd in and tried to boot from CD rom, not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, I don't think you can put new components into HP's because of the proprietary parts.

What Me disc are you using - MS Windows Me CD or HP Recovery Disc Set?

The easiest way is to use the HP Recovery Disc Set.

I am using the Windows ME cd, and I went into bios and set to boot from CD-Rom. I have it set to Cable Select. And I still get the same message.
