XP Logon Problems

Hi.. I'm running XP Home and when I get to the logon
screen and click on either user it starts loading
settings and then automatically starts logging off. The
same thing happens in Safe Mode, I have done a repair
install but with no luck. I hate to format it as there
are some files needed on the drive. Thanks, Steve

Try logging on as the Admin/Owner at the login/welcome screen hit Ctrl + Alt + Del twice and login in as the Admin if you can get in as the Admin back up your data and then go for the reinstall.

Do you have another system running XP that you could pull the HDD out of this system and install the HDD into another system and save the data?

you should try to scan your registry for errors.
boot to the XP CD and select repair by typing R and ten go to the command line by typing C(i think its C) then type scanreg
