Windows 98 all skrewed up!!!
Hi Y'all,
After getting 25+ viruses on the works computer i gave up cleansing and reformated the c:, reinstalled win 98 and their cack software and everything was fine for a week (apart form the graphics card not working properly, only 16 colours??!!??) Then out of the blue i start getting a message saying 'a windows file/system.ini has been deleted - bi-di.386 (i know i didn't delete this file), I reinstall win98 hoping it would 'fill in the file' and now the pc locks up when the windows loading screen pops up but it will let me in on safe mode. Anybody got any advice on the graphics card or windows issue it would be much appreciated, cuz it's frying my head ?!?!? ta |

hi ratface
do you have a brother printer connected to the computer if you do can you install it from safe mode and any software that came with it as well. as to the 16 bit colours you need to find the drivers for your vid card and install them if you now wot card you have post hear and i can help you find the drivers you may have to open the computer up and look for any numbers or letters on the vid card

spooky! how did you know i had a brother attached? i've brought the computer home with me so i'll get the discs from work tomorrow and have ago. Why would a brother printer stop windows loading properly?
Just opened the case and it's a SIS 8MB VGA card can something that small produce 256 colours??? Had this problem with the other office pc after i formated and reinstalled everything, that was a S3 Savage4 16 MB AGP card, thought i'd fryed the card some how while installing a network card cuz i installed the graphics driver - system crashed, downloaded the driver of the net - the system crashed, tryed other settings in display - the system crashed. replaced card with a nvidia 32mb tnt graphics card & it works perfectly. Now i'm having this problem it's to much of a coincedence, i couldn't of fryed a chip on the card while installing a network card could i? i'm sure i didn't touch it |

the printer driver has a bug in it you nead to get the latest one but first you must update the vid driver is ther a modal number on it ?

If I get the latest driver d'ya reckon that will let windows properly? |

brother driver deleted
vid driver installed win setup run & all windows files/system.ini in place pc running (sweeeet) tomorrow will download the latest brother driver thank you very much andy you are a star!!! |

no problam just one moor thing check your bios setings under paralell port make shore its set to ecp or epp or both
