driver installation problem

I hope this is the right forum. I am having problems installing the drivers for a NIC card. I have the floppy and I have windows search in the A: drive for the best driver. It finds it and begins to install but then it asks for the Win98 CD. I have the CD in the CD rom and it still says it is not there. I even direct it to the D: drive (which I know for sure is the CD-Rom). Any suggestions for getting the Windows files it needs?

TIA, BP

I've seen some NIC installations where it's asking for the windows CD, but what it's really looking for is back on the driver disk... direct Windows back to there.

I share your pain...I've been there a number of times. Sometimes directing it to C:\windows\options\cabs instead of the CD does the trick.

Those are the files it's probably looking for on the CD anyway and it might be able to find what it's looking for on the harddrive when it can't on the CD.

If you don't have that folder, open the CD drive, close it and make sure you wait until the CD drive spins up before telling the installation to proceed. That long spin-up/spin-down cycle on some (most) CD drives can give the installer fits.

Well I think I figured it out. I guess it was the OS, I re-installed and it seems to find the CD now.
