Faxing in XP

Hello all, I am trying to configure my fax program in XP. When the wizard pops up it says that I do not have an active modem installed. I was under the impression that the dsl modem I am using is acceptable and would work to send and receive faxes. Does anybody have some information on how I should set the fax program up? Thanks in advance...

I don't know of any DSL modems that can send and receive faxes. DSL modems are not technically modems, and can't be used as such. You will either need a regular modem to send and receive faxes, or an online fax service like www.efax.com.

Hi Gonzo, so if I have dsl installed through a nic, can I install a 56k modem, connect a phone line to it and send and receive faxes without disrupting my dsl connection? I have a HP all-in-one fax machine connected to the computer, but what I want to do is have all the faxes come through the computer and then print the ones I want. Does that sound like it's possible?

That should work. Just as you can talk on the phone while online with DSL, you can also use a fax machine. The DSL data signals are separate from the normal voice telephone signals.
