Question WinXP/2000 (Both Pro)

Yes!...I am full of questions today !

Here is (are) my question (s):

My system has 2 HD one is 80G (part 40/20/20) and a 20GB removeable (pull out drawer).

I currently have XP Pro, but want to install 2000 as well...on the pull out drive.

How would that work? or how can I make that work?

Would that be consider a double boot?

Thanks for all of your help!

You can install win2k after xp pro, however it is more work. Here are some instructions on installing win2k after xp. I would not install on a removable hd, rather on a partition on the first disk.

1) Backup anything of importance before you start this.
2) Boot with your win2k cd in the cd drive [with the cd set as first boot device in the bios]
3) Install win2k and all drivers, service packs, patches, etc.
4) You will have a boot menu, however xp will not be accessible until we repair the boot loader / boot files.
5) Now boot with the xp cd and you have two choices; repair the boot menu manually or do a repair install. Note the repair install will require you to reapply sp, patches, hot fixes, etc.
6) To repair manually boot with the xp cd and choose repair. This will boot you into the recovery console. Follow these directions and you will have a dual boot system.

1. Boot your computer with the Windows XP CD. When prompted to Setup or Repair, choose Repair. In the Recovery Console, enter the following commands:
2. FIXBOOT, answer Yes
3. CD \
4. ATTRIB -H NTLDR
5. ATTRIB -S NTLDR
6. ATTRIB -R NTLDR
7. ATTRIB -H NTDETECT.COM
8. ATTRIB -S NTDETECT.COM
9. ATTRIB -R NTDETECT.COM
10. COPY X:\I386\NTLDR C:\
11. COPY X:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\

The last two X is the cd drive; so use whatever letter your cd drive has been assigned.

CRJDRIVER

A word of thanks for your post regarding dual boot w2k after xp. It was right to the point, thank you. Multiple other post tended to ramble and use third party devices. Thank you.
