OK, I have Windows XP a 2.0GHz Celeron and this is thing is just slowwwww...

I've had this PC for about 2 months now and all was good until now. Windows seem to take ages to open up, it takes me about 20 minutes to be able to see my mouse move around after I sign in, and when I go to task manager, it displays 100% CPU Usage.

I also got a pop-up saying that my Intel Integrated Graphics drivers were closed or something and I was asked if I wanted to send an error report.

I have no idea what is causing this, can somebody please help me?

check for spy-ware or ad-ware, defragmenting your computer, and make sure you have at least 3gb left in your hard drive.

If you're using McAfee, get rid of it. There are multiple bugs in McAfee that cause 100% CPU usage, as well as chewing up gigabytes of hard disk space for no reason.

I have Norton. It came with the PC when I bought it. I tried to get rid of it from Add/Remove Programs but it doesn't show up there.

Sounds like you have a slew of driver/software conflicts. You gonna have to do some cleanup and re-installations. Could a little too difficult to explain on the forums. Walk-through might be better.

Cool

I would start with running Spybot. Then run disk cleanup and defrag. Next clean up startup. You may have installed some programs with the option for them to startup at boot. Let us know what is starting up.

100% cpu usage? sounds like u have too many programs running at the same time; they may be running the 'background' which u might not be aware?. To close unnecessary programs when u get into winxp, go to start--run--type in 'msconfig'--click on the startup tab, then uncheck unnessesary programs

Here are the steps I take when cleaning up an XP computer:

1. Turn off all unecessary services. A good guide for that is on Black Viper's site.
2. Download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or AdAware (I use them both.)
3. Download and run CoolWebSearch Shredder. CoolWebSearch is a particularly nasty bit of foistware that Spybot and AdAware have trouble removing.
4. Disable everything the owner will let me from loading on startup. Best to do that through each program's preferences/options if you can since more and more software is being written to override msconfig settings and load up anyway.
5. For those startup programs which don't offer the option of disabling loading on startup, go to Start>Run, type in "msconfig" (without the quotes), click OK. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck the boxes on everything you are absolutely sure you don't need to load on startup. Click OK.
Note: Next time you boot up, you'll probably get a Dire Warning about having started in Selective Mode. Yes, you have and yes, you want to do that.
