Ultimate Boot Disk & Aida
According to Ultimate Boot Disk, Aida "Is a free system information utility. You can download it from here,
http://www.aida32.hu/aida16.php extract it to a floppy disk and add this file http://www.xecu.net/jsjr/Web2/get/sinfo.cab to the AIDA floppy disk to run it from the UBD menu. My question is how does one extract 4.03 mbs worth of Aida to a floppy? Or are they refering solely to the Aida executable? Thx - J -

You can't. without doing what they are suggesting I suspect yes, the executable.
You can do it with Belarc and I suspect you could do it with Sandra, both of which are also free. But rather than trying to put it all on the UBD you probably would be better served by having it on a separate floppy. |

I haven't heard of this tool before, but here's the quote from the FAQs link on their website:
__________________________ Q:"The Features page reflect that both AIDA32 Network Edition and AIDA32 Personal Edition can fit on a single floppy disk, but the size of the packages seem to be over 3 MB. How can this fit on a single floppy disk?" A: "A couple of files including the not necessary language modules (*.LNG), all database schemas (DB*.*), all AIDA32 plugins (AIDAPLUGIN*.*), the web links file (AIDA32.WEB) and the XP icons module (AIDA_XPICONS.DLL) should be removed before copying the files to the floppy disk. In the case DirectX information is not required, it is recommended to remove the DirectX module (AIDA_DIRECTX.DLL) too." _________________________ So it's a selection process: you only copy over the files you need onto the floppy. I've noticed quite a few new utilities like this at the download sites: but I've been too busy to try any. Maybe someone who's tried some will post with their favorites. I've been using SiSoft Sandra for ages, partly because I usually have a copy with me. Most of these utilities work well. . . . Gary |

Something I found out by accident. If you install Aida on your system and then copy\burn the installed Aida32 directory to a CD you can run it from the CD on any machine. (the directory I have is aida32ee_310)
I also have the directory copied to a USB flash disk and it works just as well. It was originally installed on a W2k machine and I`ve run it from the CD or flash disk on XP and W9x machines. Very handy. |

Just wanted to clear up the confusion for anyone trying to use AIDA with the Ultimate Boot Disk.
The problem was trying to use AIDA32. The version of AIDA necessary for use with Ultimate Boot Disk is AIDA16 v2.10 (548kb unzipped) - Oct 17, 2003 http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=16 which as you see will fit nicely on a floppy with no alteration. SINFO.BAT must also be added to the floppy: It must be extracted from sinfo.cab, which can be found at http://www.xecu.net/jsjr/Web2/get/ Run the Ultimate Boot Disk, & when the menu comes up select "Computer Info." The select AIDA. You will then be prompted to insert the AIDA floppy. Tons of system info. Outstanding combo of utilities. hth - J -
