Small screens????
I'm sure this is an extremely easy fix for someone here but I just don't know how to do it. When I click on any of my desktop shortcuts or pretty much any link to another site, the new window comes up small. I can pull the corners out to fill up the screen or just click on the the box up in the right hand corner to make the page fill up the screen but I end up having to do this every time. What can I do so that every new window fills up the screen automatically. Thanks.

Here are the steps:
1. Open IE and get a page with links on it 2. Open any link on that page in a new window 3. Resize the secondary window by dragging, don't use the maximize button. 4. Close the original window (critical for this to work) 5. Close the resized secondary window All future secondary windows should now open to the size and position of the window closed in Step 4. |

Miz,
Thank you VERY much for trying to help me. I really appreciate it but I've tried your method and it doesn't seem to work. Also, what about the links that I have on my desktop that don't have an original link? Any other suggestions. Thanks again. |

Try something very close to Miz's procedure: first time you open IE for the day, stretch it with the resizing arrows to fill your screen. Then close the program by left-clicking on the upper-left-hand corner IE icon and click on Close.
Then see if both your original screens, as well as your inpage links, open with full page screens. Seems to work with IE6. . . . Gary |

Open only one IE window and FIRST stretch the window to maximum THEN click the maximize square and THEN close the window. The next IE window you open will be big.

azscary,
Thanks but no luck. When I go back and open the original window, it IS big, but I had pretty much already accomplished that, at least temporarily,(this usually ends up changing back), but any secondary links from the original page still show up half size. ![]() I'm not completely positive, but at this point, it's starting to look like this problem is related mostly to one particular site. Does this make any difference to anyone? Last edited by Huh?; 09-14-2003 at 12:20 AM. |

Have you tried the same procedure I described after the secondary window opens? You can also set IE to reuse the windows so that instead of opening a new window for the link, it opens the link in the already expanded window. In CONTROL PANEL>INTERNET OPTIONS there is a tab at the top that says ADVANCED and in that list will be the option to reuse the windows for opening shortcuts. If you put a check in that box it will not open a second window but just navigate to the link in the existing window.

Holy Crap!!! "Something" finally worked. I went into Internet Options, Advanced as you suggested and the closest thing I could find to what you were talking about was.....
"Launch browser windows in a seperate process" So I unclicked that and applied it. I then went to my desktop and clicked on the site that seems to be giving the most problem and THE LINK NO LONGER WORKED ALL AND MY PC FROZE UP!!! So, upset that I had really screwed something up, I rebooted, went BACK into Internet Options, Advanced, reclicked the "Launch browser windows in a seperate process" and then applied it. I then went BACK to my desktop, clicked on the link to that particular site again and , and, NOT ONLY DID THE LINK WORK AGAIN BUT NOW ANY SECONDARY LINKS COME UP LARGE AGAIN AND MY PROBLEM IS GONE!!! Who knows how in the heck this worked because at this point, nothing is really changed. As far as the Internet Options, I'm back where I was originally but something about unclicking that option, freezing, bebooting, and reclicking that option has done the trick. Extremely weird but anyway azscary, you led the way so ........THANKS!!!!! |

Nothing like a good bebooting and reclicking I say. ![]() ![]() Glad I can steer. I seem to have fixed more problems by accident and bebooting than anything. Sometimes those bees get pissed when bebooting and I have to run like Hell then.

So, spanking your naughty system with a reboot did it
![]() I imagine this is one of the settings that "adapts" to your habits - probably a setting somewhere in the Registry - but it's probably one of the dynamic (changes depending on your latest actions) ones. I haven't paid attention to windows opening much, but if you ever have this happen again, and a magic reboot doesn't happen - you can also look at what they do in this link http://users.telenet.be/solvenet/tie3.htm#MAXIMIZENEW It's basically the same as Miz's 1st suggestion, but with the added keyboard action of holding the Shift button down while clicking on the link. The wierd thing is that my systems here at work and at home open new windows maximized all the time - and I usually don't do anything special (other than what I mentioned in my 1st post). Probably a good explanation somewhere, maybe someone will post it for us. . . . Gary |

Thanks to everyone nice enough to try and help me out. Just for clarification to those of you trying to figure out exactly how this worked, I had bebooting many times over the last few days with no luck. It was just this last odd series of events that ended up working.

If you want your desktop shortcuts to open fullscreen, you can try this:
Right-click on the shortcut, choose properties, shortcut, then change Open Normal to Open Maximised. In the case of IE, you will need to actually create that shortcut first i.e Right Click IE icon, "Create Shortcut", then use your new shortcut as above. This worked for my system with Win98, hope it'll work for you. |
