ERROR identified in Admin tools

Hi Guys,

System as in my sig. I have noticed that boot times have slowed a fair bit, but once up everything is as I would expect.

Had a look in the Events logs and have spotted this error

The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( True Vector Engine ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: .

0000: 54 69 6d 65 6f 75 74 20 Timeout
0008: 6f 6e 20 64 65 62 75 67 on debug
0010: 20 6d 75 74 65 78 00 mutex.

Have virus checked and spyware checked and I come up clean, any thoughts on this.......

TIA

Steve

If I remember correctly the true vector engine is associated with Zone Alarm, but that is all I know about it.

Thanks jimmie, ZA seems to be working fine. Guess I'll have to hope on an update.

Anybody else got any ideas.

I found that in my Event Viewer, just after the most recent Security Updates for XP.
I don't think it's coincidence.
In my case the results, computer hangs, wiped out most of a massive WU from folding@home.

Yes, the True Vector Engine is a part of Zone Alarm. Are you also running XP's firewall?? Maybe they don't play well together...

I had that error message long before SP1 hit the net and it would be the only one, I switched to Sygate and I no longer have that issue.

HaHa you made me look!! Seriously, Since I do also run Zone Alarm Pro (on XP Pro SP1), I looked at my events. The only ones I have that are related are an occasional "corrupt" ZA log. No errors even close to the above.

Don't know if it will help, but my current version is 4.0.123.012, and there is a new version / update availible: 4.0.146.029

Also, a few of my buddies also run XP (both) with ZA with no problems, so I'm not that quick to comdem ZA as the fault.

Has anyone contacted ZA's tech support?

Even though the error showed up in my event viewer often, I never had any problems with ZA Pro, however when it came time to renew my 5 user license and ZA Pro had nearly doubled in costs I dropped them and opted for SygatePro which I prefer over ZA.

I don't have the luxury of the Pro ver.

I shall be composing an e-mail to Zonelabs shortly. Will let you know what happens.

Well, I couldn't find anything related at ZA's site, but looked only for about 10 minutes or so.

I did go back to the event viewer, and it raises a new question:

Are you getting actually *errors* or just getting *informational* data? I have the same Information listing on other programs but no on ZA.

Also, is the program working OK? Mine (with messages) are. You may also want to look at other info listings as other programs may be having the same message.

They (ZoneLabs) have just released another update, I'm going to try it and see what happens.

Will let you know.

EDIT Just done the upgrade and the error has disappeared from the logs !!!

Also had a reply to my e-mail saying no e-mail support for the free product !!

I've just upgraded.
I think it's working.
The reboot after the install locked up the computer and required another reboot but that was the last one.
It seems to be fine now.
I'm glad that's over with.

Just curious, and maybe it may help others, but is the upgrade the same version as I noted above, or different for the free version?

The update is for the free version, and is logged as 3.7.211 across all three elements of the app.

I believe that this is different to the PRO ver.

You're right, it is a different version. Strange... If I remember right, in the past ZoneLabs usually put out the same version of the free program as the Pro version. Pro has been in version 4 for a while now.... Hopefully they'll upgrade it soon.

Hopefully their tech support
