A friend of the family bought a used Dell desktop from some co-worker and it has win98 installed. They want to know it there is a way to rename the user (i.e. Start > Logoff username) without having to reinstall the os unless they have to.
Thanks.

Just log in as a new user. If you want to eliminate it completely (the old user name)... open a command prompt and delete the *.PWL files in the WINDOWS directory.

If you want a new user, then HAL9000 advice is good.
But if you just want to get rid of the annoying log-on altogether, go to Settings - Control Panel - Network and then where it says on Primary Network Logon switch it to Windows Logon and you will never have to worry about clients ever again. |
