The RPC server is unavailable error

I was trying to make an image using NortonGhost but quit it before any changes occured..

Then suddenly my SoundCard went dead.. i have a SoundBlaster Audigy2 Platinum.

I tried re-installing the drivers but i kept getting an error saying the hwardware was not found..even though i havent touched the sound card physically..

I could not even restore because i found out the restore service was turned off.. i tried reparing it ..still nothing..

so i re-installed Windows XP..when it was installed..i got the little notices on the task bar saying..new hard ware found.. new game port found.. new sound device found (wdm)..
then i popped in the installation CD..but when trying to re-install the drivers and software i get this error



The installshield Engine (ikernel.exe) could not be launched.
The RPC server is unavailable.


When I go to Device Manager I see the yellow question and excalamtion mark near Multimedia Audio Controller.


Also, in MS Paint.. i tried to copy and i also tried to cut an object..but i kept getting this error

Whats going on?!?!!
