Improper shutdown

Hi,

My sister is running Windows ME. When she has an improper shutdown, during the next startup it runs a "thorough" scan disk. Is there a way to change it to a "standard" scan disk because the thorough takes forever to run. I realize that you can cancel the test, but every time the systems starts it states improper shutdown and starts to run the "thorough" scan disk until it runs completely without hitting cancel. Thanks.

I believe that the next time your in windows, if you open up scan disk and go to settings, choose standard instead of thorough, and save it, you won't go through the thorough scan again.

I openned up scan disk in windows and standard is already checked. I guess it is stored somewhere else for an improper shutdown.

Click on Start> Run> type in "msconfig"> in the General tab, click on Advanced> check the box next to "Disable Scandisk after bad shutdown".

when my ME goes thru an improper shutdown, I let it boot into DOS and run scandisk. It works incredibly faster then the Win version of scandisk. The DOS version will ask you if you want to run a surface scan.
