Xp failure to load settings
I don't know much about this issue cause its my friends computer but I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem. She turned off her computer and when she came back from school it said something was corrupt (im guessing a system file) and it was unable to load her settings. I told her to go through documents and settings and she found all her files under the name of her login. Her login has none of her settings, files, and such. Its the default login. Anyway to fix this without formatting? Im thinking trying a repair of the XP disc (is there even that option?). Any ideas?

System Restore is a built-in feature of WinXP. It may or may not be enabled on her machine but to find out, right click on My Computer in the Start menu, click on Properties, go to the System Restore tab and see if the box is checked. If it is, then System Restore is enabled and has been making restore points.
To use System Restore, go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. One of the options there will be to "Restore my computer to an earlier time." Choose that option, click on Next and follow the prompts on the screen. |
