Over a few windows installs I've come to the conclusion that the majority of crashed installs is memory related. I've had other problems, but memory has given me more problems than all the others combined.

Try replacing the IDE cable.

Is the hard drive jumper set correctly for the type of IDE cable you're using? If you're using a 80 wire UltraATA IDE cable the jumper should be set to CS with the blue connector to the motherboard, black to the main hard drive and grey to slave device. If you're using a 40 wire ATA33 IDE cable, set the jumper to master.

Could also be RAM related. Do you have spare RAM you can swap in to test with? If not, go to Simmtester.com and download DocMemory and test your RAM.

Also, please don't type in all caps, it's considered rude on-line behavior.

Also . . . is your processor faster than 2ghz? If so, you'll need to download a patch for Win98se http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;312108

Also, try giving the Windows CD a clean.

Disable any anti-virus options in the BIOS.

The problem in using Windows which was installed on another PC is a different matter. All the hardware is different - so Windows would have to redetect all the new hardware.

Sometimes it works - but most of us recommend using the ENUM key trick
